Hikes in Marloth Nature Reserve, Swellendam
Now it is just a matter of which one to do first... :-)

Marloth Nature Reserve
This is a view of the Langeberg Mountains from my back garden - is it safe to venture that far out? I last hiked the big trail some 30 years ago... Talk about full circle or what?
Marloth Flower Route
Nearest Town: Swellendam
Region: Garden Route
Trail distance: 5,5km (2,5 hours)
Trail description: This easy hike begins and ends at the reserve office. The highlight is a section of about 2,5km that leads through rich protea and erica stands, that are very colourful in flower season. Along the way you will see small animals, Cape fynbos, patches of afromontane forest and birds. Koloniesbos
Nearest Town: Swellendam

Trail distance: 6km (2,5 hours)
Trail description: This fairly easy circular hike begins and ends at the reserve office. Along the way you can see small animals, Cape fynbos and birds. This circular route leads into Koloniesbos, an indigenous forest where you will find yellowwood, stinkwood and ironwood trees.
Fires are only permitted at demarcated sites. Tienuurkop Trail
Nearest Town: Swellendam
Region: Garden Route
Distance: 11,5km (6,5 hours)
Trail description: This is a very difficult route. The linear circle route starts at the reserve office and leads to the peak of Tienuurkop and back. It leads through fynbos veld and patches of indigenous forest in the ravines. You are rewarded with views over Swellendam and the Ruensveld. Watch out for a diversity of birds and small animals. Duiwelsbos

Trail distance: 5km (2 hour)
Trail description: This fairly easy hike begins and ends at the reserve office. The first 2km takes the hiker to the Duiwelsbos and then 1,5km leads into the indigenous forest and back. The trail turns at a small waterfall. Along the way you will see small animals, Cape fynbos, and birds. Fires are only permitted at demarcated sites. Twaalfuurkop

Trail description: This strenuous and very difficult linear route starts at the reserve office and leads to the peak of Twaalfuurkop and back. My Astrology Reading on Sir's 42nd Birthday
It's Sir's Birthday... 42 today :-) so I just felt the need to publish my astrology reading for the day... and I am taking him to dinner tonight to Paprika, where I have heard the new chef is the same one whose cooking, particularly Duck a' la Orange, as a chef at Jakes in Sea Point, was always fantastic.

Ayelet Nir on the River Jordan, Israel
Ayelet captained the Israeli white water team back in 1995. The event was the Camel International White Water Challenge, held on the Zambezi River, directly below Victoria Falls.
Ayelet is a Rainbow Kid extraordinaire! She enjoyed paddling with us so much she came to visit us in South Africa on two subsequen6t occasions, to join Bruce and I on a 5 day Orange River expedition each time.
This picture looks like it has the makings of quite a fun hole (hydraulic) to play in. It may not be everyone's idea of somewhere to classy to play, but for the likes of us and this fellow paddler, it is God's playground!

MNET - I am smarter than a 5th grader!
Belief in self is the 1st step.
Belief in miracles in the 2nd step.
Belief in the power of one's own dreams is the 3rd step.
When I first saw the promotion for entrants for the show "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?", I had no idea that there was any money to be won and just thought it looked like a total blast - and who better to represent Stanfordian's than myself? I am, after all, the first woman in the world to kayak the upper 22km's of the Batoka Gorge on the Zambezi River, Zimbabwe and I have always done my Camelman brothers proud.
I don't know, but I've been told, "Hunter's girls are made of Gold". Amanzi and I, we are like sisters. Also, J&B Rare! i.e. Jy (ja, dis ek) en B (that's Bruce) Rare - what can I say?
My Southern African River Song has once verse that is applicable here:
The River ZAMBEZI is mighty and bold

Dance with her till the morning’s gold...

I promise to invest a minimum 10% of my winnings to officially launcing my Rainbow Kidz Project. My personal project, inspired by Oprah Winfrey's Gratitude Journal, is a combination of education, dream building, job creation, entrepreneurial empowerment and recycling with a strong emphasis on harmonious tourism and environmental awareness.
With thanks, to David Gresham for teaching me to keep my feet on the ground and reach for the stars. To Allan Clive Baker, for leaving me with the legacy that it is preferable to rather make a fool of myself than be a fool. To Douglas Bader, for teaching me that nothing is impossible if faced with true courage. To Bruce John Barrett Castle, for standing by me through thick and thin, through "sic and sin". To all the people in my life that know they matter. And those that don't, well, I don't mind.
